Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) is one of six operational units within Risk Management Services (RMS).
The Department's mandate is to "support the University's mission through services, partnership, guidance and education to promote health, safety, protection of the environment, and regulatory compliance."
As a service department, we offer:
- numerous training and education opportunities for faculty, staff and students
- timely and expert advice on all aspects of environmental health & safety
- the most current and comprehensive information from provincial and federal regulatory agencies
- consulting services on best practices and information on all University health, safety & environmental requirements

April 28 - On April 28 of each year, Canada recognizes a Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace. On this day the University of Alberta recognizes those individuals who have died or been injured while serving the University since its founding in 1908.
March 29 - Laboratory Safety Video from CSB - From time to time EHS learns of events outside the U of A that may offer a meaningful perspective for those of us concerned with health and safety. One such event is the recent release of a video produced by the US Chemical Safety Board that examines three serious lab incidents at three American universities. Check out the video, Experimenting with Danger.
February 23 - UV Protection On-line Course now available! This short course covers the potential hazards of equipment that produce UV light, and looks at some non-research exposure (i.e. sunlight and tanning beds). If your work on campus involves the use of UV light, you are welcome to take the course. Clink on the link to register.
January 12 - Radiation Safety Training now on-line! Courses are available for new users, and a refresher course is available for those who have previously taken the University of Alberta's Radiation Safety Training.
