Chemical Exchange

General Information

The Chemical Exchange (Recycle) Service formerly managed by the Department of Chemistry has been in operation for 20 years. Our mandate is to minimize chemical waste by offering surplus chemicals collected from labs on campus free of charge to researchers for use on campus. This service is only available to U of A staff.

Chemical Exchange Management

Surplus chemicals are picked up from the labs as requested. The surplus chemical is transferred by truck to the Cloverbar Hazardous Waste Facility, where it is stored and then shipped back to campus when an order is placed. Received orders will be filled within 48 hours if the requested item is in stock; if the item requested is not available requestors will be notified within 24 hours.
