Concepts in Biosafety
The Concepts in Biosafety course provides in-depth instruction for personnel who work with biohazards at the University of Alberta. This course should be taken after completion of WHMIS and Laboratory Safety. Concepts in Biosafety is organized by topic, including the following:
- Biosafety Introduction
- Laboratory Acquired Infections
- Risk Groups and Containment Levels
- Biological Safety Cabinets
- Biohazard Decontamination
The general part of the Concepts in Biosafety course has become the Laboratory Safety course -- applicable to a wider audience. Together, the Laboratory Safety course and new Concepts in Biosafety course are the same length as the previous version of the Concepts in Biosafety course.
Pre-requisite: The Laboratory Safety Course is a mandatory pre-requisite to the Concepts in Biosafety course
Optional modules
Several optional modules are available to individuals who may encounter special activities or materials in their research. These include the following:
- Human Blood and Body Substances
- Cell Culture and Recombinant DNA
- Animal Work and Zoonoses
- Viral Vector Systems
