Radiation Safety
Radiation Safety Full Course
This course is offered to all graduate students, technicians, post-doctoral fellows and other personnel who will be working with radioactivity in a laboratory at the University of Alberta.
This blended course includes:
- On-line modules containing theory and rules for handling radioactivity
- A practical lab session
- Final exam
Students will sign-up for the lab session when they have successfully completed the on-line modules. The course is offered free of charge to all University personnel with a valid CCID.
Note: No work with radioactive materials may be performed without satisfactory completion of this course and 70% or more on the Certification Exam. This is a requirement of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, who issue the University’s license.
Registration for the Radiation Safety course can be done via the online registration form.
Summer students will also now take the on-line course, there is no longer a separate course for summer students.
Radiation Safety Refresher Course (New!)
This course is designed for personnel who have previously taken the Radiation safety course. This short on-line module reviews the current practices for using radioisotopes on campus. This course will be part of the requirement for renewing a radioisotope permit on campus.
Registration for the Radiation Safety course can be done on-line. Make sure you select Radiation Safety - Refresher in the online registration form.
